Introduction to speech therapy is often enhanced by an overview of an awareness of the  anatomical components (speech helpers) By using your favorite picture or model and  referring to this carryover page you can provide a thorough awareness foundation! Begin by asking them "what are we using when we speak?"   Then you can expand the lesson by   listing each speech helper and  1.  demonstrating varied ways  of using each speech helper  (ex popping sounds /p/ /b/ or /m/ with our lips    2.  establishing the awareness cues during that demonstration  (ex.  oh, your" voice is on" for /m/ )  3.  tieing in  the letter sounds   associated with the speech sound produced.  Once this lesson is begun it often extends to 3-4 sessions , as the kids find it interesting.  We enhance that with little activites... such as using a feather to demonstrate the "speech air"  we use  when we make the /p/ sound or use a fun timer to compare "maximum phonation time" ! I am sure this "speech Helpers"  page I share  can be enhanced with many additions... feel free to add and share !
