Positive self-talk Positive self talk Do you worry about your speech? People who stutter think about their trouble talking. This is normal but... these thoughts are NOT helpful. It's like practicing to stutter in your head. It's called "Negative Self-Talk". Negative self-talk makes you tense. Negative self-talk makes you nervous. Negative self-talk makes talking difficult. Instead you should use "Positive Self-Talk". Tell yourself helpful messages before talking. It's like what teachers and coaches say. They say: "You can do it!" Instead of saying: "I'm going to stutter"... say to yourself: "I know my fluency strategies." say to yourself: "I know fluency strategies." Instead of saying: "I can't stop stuttering"... Say to yourself: "I can use 'Easy Starts'." Say to yourself: "I can use 'Pausing and Phrasing'." say to yourself: "I'm good at sharing my messages." Keep up the good work... by being a good coach using Positive Self-Talk!

This material, titled 'Positive Self-Talk' is to help children who stutter learn to use this strategy to improve their overall speech fluency.
